Transparent by design

A transparent maturity model for operational Industry 5.0 capability.

The method translates human-centricity, sustainability and resilience into observable practices, clear evidence expectations and practical transition priorities.

These five operational dimensions are derived from and operationalise the EU Industry 5.0 pillars of human-centricity, sustainability and resilience.

Method at a glance

What the Mapper measures

i5 Benchmark evaluates the maturity of organisational practices across five connected dimensions. Each dimension contains four questions, producing 20 maturity observations and 20 evidence-confidence observations.

Each question is rated on a 1–5 maturity scale and a separate 1–5 evidence scale. This separation helps distinguish an ambitious claim from a well-supported practice.

01 · Dimensions

Five operational lenses.

HX

Human-centric Experience

Participation, capability, augmentation, inclusion and quality of work.

SW

Safety & Wellbeing

Physical, digital and psychosocial safety integrated into operating design.

AR

Accountability & Responsiveness

Decision ownership, oversight, stakeholder response and traceability.

SU

Sustainability

Operational integration, resource productivity, value chains and just transition.

RE

Resilience

Dependencies, scenarios, adaptive capacity and learning systems.

02 · Maturity

A five-level progression.

03 · Evidence

Confidence is scored separately.

Evidence maturity is not proof of performance on its own. It indicates the confidence that can reasonably be placed in a response.

04 · Scoring

Equal-weight calculation and balanced interpretation

Each dimension score is the arithmetic mean of its four maturity responses. The overall score is the arithmetic mean of the five dimension scores. Evidence confidence is calculated in parallel. No sector weighting is applied in the initial model.

Scores are interpreted as Initial (1.00–1.79), Emerging (1.80–2.59), Defined (2.60–3.39), Managed (3.40–4.19) or Transformative (4.20–5.00). Results should be read as a profile: headline score, dimension balance, evidence confidence, critical gaps and practical implications.

Why equal weighting?

Equal weighting makes the baseline transparent and keeps the initial model understandable across different organisation types. As verified participation grows, the platform will progressively introduce sectoral, regional, city-level and organisational comparisons under published data quality and ranking rules.

05 · Independence

Independent and internationally oriented

i5 Benchmark is independently developed by Sustainable Intelligence and SUSTIN C.I.C. It is informed by the European Industry 5.0 framework and participation in the European Commission’s Industry 5.0 Community of Practice, while maintaining methodological independence.

The framework connects the European Industry 5.0 vision with global standards, sustainability frameworks and jurisdiction-specific requirements.

Assessment and assurance boundary

  • The assessment does not certify an organisation or practice.
  • It does not determine legal or regulatory compliance.
  • It does not claim endorsement by the European Union or any standards body.
  • It is not an official Industry 5.0 standard.
  • Standards mappings are interpretive and do not reproduce proprietary text.
  • Self-reported results may be affected by scope, interpretation and respondent bias.
